Song of the Prophets: ‘Take Two’

REQUIEM FOR THE CLIMATE MAKES ITS DEBUT IN THE RUN-UP TO G7

The world premiere broadcast of Song of the Prophets, a Requiem for the Climate, which we wrote about in 2020, finally made its debut, streaming online on 9th June 2021, from St Pauls Cathedral following the postponement last year of a live performance because of Covid 19.

If you missed it or would like to watch it again, Christian Aid have now made this performance by the Chineke! Orchestra, freely able, although, you are welcome to make a donation to their work should you wish to. Suitably debuting in the run-up to G7, this new 12 minute orchestral work on theme of climate change, is split into 4 movements - Creation, Ruin, Recovery and Redemption with interludes from 3 musicians playing instruments from some of the countries suffering the most from the climate crisis.

The music was inspired by Song of the Prophets: a global theology of climate change,a paper first released by Christian Aid in 2014 and re-published in May 2020. The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, who is quoted in the 2014 paper, and is the Christian Aid Chair, also gave a keynote address. Chi-chi Nwanoku, the founder of Chineke! said:' We will all walk away from this project feeling that we've done some little thing to join hands with Christian Aid to make the world a better place.'
